Indian scientists are constantly making us proud with their innovations and intriguing contributions to the world every day. Let's have a look at some of the most interesting findings made recently.
Crux of the Matter
Biodegradable Polymer Made Using Guar Gum And Chitosan
Research Team: Devasish Chowdhury and Sazzadur Rahman, from Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology, Guwahati.
The fabricated film has high water stability, high mechanical strength, and great resistance to harsh environmental conditions. As per the Ministry of Science and Technology, it can be used in packaging applications.
Development Of Advanced Luminescent Material
Research Team: Prof J Manam, Prof S K Sharma and Dr Sourav Das of IIT (Indian School of Mines) Dhanbad.
The newly formed material exhibits ‘Long persistent luminescence’ (when a substance exhibits light after being exposed to solar light for a long time). It can be used for tagging, tracking and locating defence applications.
Prospective Candidate For Dengue DNA Vaccine
Research Team: Scientists from NCBS Tata Institute of Fundamental Research in Bengaluru, in collaboration with several integral institutes like IISc.
The researchers selected a part of an important viral protein (Envelope protein Domain III) from 4 different variations of the dengue virus. This would ensure that the vaccine is effective against different dengue viral variants.
Hybrid Nanomaterial To Treat Cancer
Research Team: GITAM university in collaboration with Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC).
The nanomaterial generates a high temperature in the body, which kills the cancerous cells and keeps the healthy cells intact. It can also be used for finding harmful chemicals in water bodies or detecting counterfeit currency.
Curiopedia
IISc was conceptualized when Jamsetji Tata met Swami Vivekananda, on a ship in 1893. The land for the institution in Bangalore was donated by Krishna Raja Wadiyar IV of Mysore.
