Blast From The Past: Old Artifects That Remain A Mystery

Many a times, discoveries done by archaeologists and researchers are puzzling as there is no single explanation about the story behind their existence. Let’s look at some of such mysterious artifacts from the past.

Crux of the Matter

The Dropa Stones
Found in a 1938 expedition in China, they are a set of 716 discs that are 10,000+ years old. Researcher Tsun Um Nui claimed that these stone discs tell the story of spaceships that crashed into the mountains, piloted by people called Dropa.

On the other hand, Russians stated that the discs were shown to ‘vibrate’ or ‘hum’ in an unusual rhythm in an experiment using a turntable, and were used for a scientific purpose.

The Piri Reis Map
Drawn in 1513 by the admiral of the Turkish navy, Piri Reis, it contains Antarctica amongst other continents. The puzzling thing is that Antarctica’s topography is in great detail, even though the continent has been covered in ice since 6000 years.

The Nazca Drawings
Ancient Nazca culture has no written records. So, these lines are still speculated to represent constellations in the night sky.

The Baghdad Battery
Discovered in present day Iraq, this clay vessel has a copper cylinder with an oxidized iron rod. In 1940, archaeologist Wilhelm suggested that the rod was used for electroplating gold onto silver objects. But modern archaeologists think it was a storage vessel for sacred scrolls.

The Sacsayhuaman Walls
They were built in 15th century in Peru. Scientists have failed to replicate the tight joints of these walls, even at a much smaller scale.

Curiopedia

Howard Carter, an English archaeologist, discovered the intact tomb of Tutankhamun in November 1922. Tutankhamun was an 18th Dynasty Pharaoh.
